Richard C. Janesky Sr., perhaps better known as "Dick Lightning", had been doing truck repair
and towing for 45 years. He started out working at Jony's Garage in Carlstadt, NJ and it was there that he
acquired his knowledge and love for the industry. One day in 1966, Dick decided to go into business for himself.
With the motto: "Truck is our middle name", Lightning Truck Repair was born at a Citgo service station
on Route 3 in East Rutherford. When Giants' Stadium was built, Dick had to relocate to an Esso station on Route 20.
In 1976, Lightning Truck Repair moved his growing business to our current location, purchasing his own shop
on Moonachie Avenue in Moonachie, NJ.
Underdog Truck service was started in 1989 as a mobile truck repair
company by Richard C. Janesky Jr. He had recognized the needs of the trucking industry for qualified
road service that could repair vehicles at the scene of a breakdown and get the back in service with a
minimum of downtime.
In 1994, when Richard's father was retiring as owner of Lightning Truck Repair,
it was an easy decision for Richard to purchase his dad's towing business and continue to service the loyal customers
that had been established over his dad's 30 years in repairs and towing. With the belief that the customer should
only have to make one call for all their service needs, this business combination had produced the ability
to repair at the scene or, when necessary, tow to his centrally located repair facilities in either Moonachie
or Carlstadt, New Jersey. The Moonachie location has 24 hour service and convenient access to major highways
and New York City. Rich has continued his father's legacy, modernized the fleet and diversified the capabilities
of the company.
